Expanded Beach "Nowcast" Modeling Across Wi: The proposed project will significantly expand operational nowcasting of beach water quality in Wisconsin by building multivariate models for high priority and impaired beaches using EPA’s Virtual Beach 2.0. In addition, we will test a complimentary system developed by USGS and a hybrid qPCR/multivariate model. We will provide hands-on training and technical assistance to beach managers to build long-term, local capacity to operate and refine the models, and will provide user-feedback to EPA and USGS to further enhance the tools and lower barriers to their use throughout the Great Lakes.

Development Of A Beach Safety Outreach Program For Wi: To reduce the incidence of beach- related illness, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services seeks to increase the accessibility and availability of data and information on microbial beach hazards and to improve public awareness of these hazards. New web content on beach and surface water quality parameters such as coliform bacteria, lake algae (Cladophora), and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) will be created. A range of outreach activities will be conducted, and new outreach materials such as brochures and press releases will be developed. The project will be guided by a comprehensive beach quality program evaluation plan.

Dane County Parks: Acq-Fish And Mud Lakes-Marx Acquisition: The Marx property has already been purchased by Dane County. The property will protect the majority of the Mud Lake shoreline, which is connected to Fish Lake, a very important resource in NW Dane County. This land is adjacent to other property already purchased by the County. In five years, the property will be converted from row cropping to natural drainage patterns and natural vegetation to encourage wildlife and promote water quality benefits.

City Of Middleton: Lmi-Pheasant Branch Watershed - In Lake Mendota Priority Watersh: The City of Middleton will contract with the U.S. Geological Survey to monitor and model the surface and groundwater flow within a portion of the Pheasant Branch watershed to locate effective combination of storm water treatment and control sites within the North Fork to mitigate the impacts of urbanization on the quality and quantity of water reaching Lake Mendota. Activities of the project include developing a surface and groundwater model based on existing data, collecting various field data for model inputs (including monitoring precipitation and flow discharge) refine the model and calibrate it to field measurements, calculate present and future pollution loads, and conduct analyses to accomplish the project objectives. Dane County Parks: Aulik Acquisition-Patrick Marsh: Dane County will acquire acreage within Patrick Marsh, a DNR and Dane County project area that is identified in both the Land Legacy Report and the Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan. The Aulik property is approximately 11.6 acres along the southern shore of Patrick Marsh. The acquisition of this property will protect and enhance this natural resource site.

Village Of Mazomanie: Lmi-Lake Marion Family Recreational Fishery: The Village of Mazomanie will complete a large, multi-faceted lake restoration project on Lake Marion by installing an access sign at the boat landing, installing an aeration system, stocking fish, placing habitat structures on the bed, and reconfiguring and restoring large lengths of shoreline consistent with department recommendations. The boat landing access sign will explicitly reflect the Village ordinance allowing non-motorized boat use of the lake. Current steep shorelines will be graded to provide a healthy diversity of habitat, dead trees will be introduced and anchored to shore, and trees, shrubs and understory natives will be planted. City Of Monona: Belle Isle Channel Restoration: Study will evaluate feasibility of restoring two lagoons around Belle Isle, which suffer from sedimentation/shallow water, exotic plants (EWM) and poor water quality. The goal is a plan to improve navigation, water quality, aesthetics and fish and wildlife habitat. Will identify the source of nutrients and sediments, applicable BMP's and lake practices to reduce erosion and sedimentation. Public education will take place in the process of developing a sediment and nutrient management strategy.

Dane County: Dev. Of Mgmt. Plan For Monona Bay: Monona Bay will be the focus of a UW Water Resources Management Graduate Program workshop. The students will compile information about the bay, including watershed, historic and present water quality data, aquatic plant data, determine water sources and flushing rate, recommend management options for aquatic plants and shoreline habitat, and design a public outreach program.

After the final report is complete and the grant is finished, it will be used to develop a Comprehensive Watershed Plan for Monona Bay to prioritize and guide decision-making for future management of the Bay.

City Of Madison: Hydrodynamic Modeling-Monona Bay: The City of Madison will examine retention time and circulation patterns within Lake Monona and Monona Bay in Dane County. The overall objective is to develop a hydrodynamic model to be used as a tool to assess future designs and improvements to Monona Bay. This project is critical to address the water quality issues within the bay, and was recommended by the WRM study of the Bay. The following project deliverables are expected: 1) data compilation to create an accurate and representative model; 2) model set-up; 3) Model calibration with additional field data measurements.

Lake Waubesa Conservation Association: Comp - Lake Waubesa Lake Management Plan: Project Scope and Description of Deliverables

The Lake Waubesa Conservation Association is sponsoring a project to create a comprehensive lake management plan.

Project final deliverables include:
1. LWCA user survey results will be shared with the Regional Lakes Coordinator and included in the final plan.
2. Existing water quality and nutrient loading data to the local catchment will be included in the final report. The report will combine new and existing erosion vulnerability analysis in the watershed. Specific examples of protection opportunities will be listed in the final plan.
3. The lake management plan will include a section that summarizes Dane County\2019s role in APM, CBCW, and will identify ways that LWCA can support AIS management efforts.
4. Analysis of the Lake Waubesa shoreline & shallows habitat using the WDNR approved protocol with be included in the plan.
5. Graphs and maps created using the WinSLAMM model, the associated inventory of runoff concerns in the watershed, and list of potential watershed improvement projects will be included in the final lake management plan.

Dane County: Yahara River Lakes Dredging Feasibility Study: Establish criteria to evaluate potential dredging projects. Describe approaches to overall dredging program and spoils disposal alternatives. Dane County: Yahara River Lakes Recreational Use Managment Planning: Conduct field surveys of the Yahara River lakes of the swimming beach and boat launch activities. Develop recommendations to improve recreational management of the Yahara River lakes. City Of Monona: Winnequah Park Lagoon Dredging Feasibility Study: The City of Monona is sponsoring a project to assess the feasibility of dredging within the Winnequah Park Lagoon system, which drains into Lake Monona. Project final deliverables include: a technical memorandum documenting the plan efforts.

Specific project activities include: hosting public meetings, analyzing sediment samples for contaminants, and surveying topography in the area. This information will be incorporated into a conceptual plan and specifications for the dredging. They will also create a WinSLAMM model to quantify pollutant loads from subwatersheds at up to 10 outfalls to plan for future stormwater treatment devices that will protect a future dredging investment.

City Of Monona: North Winnequah Park Lagoon Improvements Preliminary Design: The City of Monona would like to do a second of 3 projects to plan a large dredging project in North Winnequah Park Lagoon, which was sited many years ago adjacent to a landfill containing PCBs. The lagoon drains eventually to Lake Monona. This project will prepare preliminary engineering plans for dredging, naturalized shoreline stabilization, and a canoe/kayak launch. This will entail holding public meetings; sediment sampling to determine locations and amounts of contaminants; doing a topographic survey of sediments in new locations to build on previously collected data; and finally, preparing an engineering plan set including technical specifications and cost estimates. The engineering plans will be shared with the City Public Works Committee, which is open to the public.

City Of Monona: North Winnequah Park Lagoon Final Design:
The City of Monona is sponsoring a third and final project to finalize engineering plans for dredging of contaminated sediments within the Winnequah Park Lagoon system, which drains into Lake Monona. They will also prepare final bid documents and permit requests for the project.

Project final deliverables include: a final report containing meeting agendas, final design drawings (electronic), estimated project quantities and construction cost, project manual, copy of advertisement to bid, and a statement that the permit application has been prepared and submitted.
